Rule of Two
KYBA follows Rule of Two guidelines set out by the Coaching Association of Canada in order to protect minors and coaches in potentially vulnerable situations by ensuring more than one adult is present.

In addition to this, all of our volunteers and coaches are required to provide proof of a valid Police Record Check (PRC) to KYBA. Valid means that it has been issued within the last two years.
Concussion Policy
For Concussion Prevention and Management, KYBA follows Ontario Basketball’s
Concussion Policy and Code of Conduct . Newly updated for the 2019-20 season, this refined Policy was developed in collaboration with the Concussion Centre at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, Ontario Physical and Health Education Association and the Coaches Association of Ontario to meet the requirements of Rowan’s Law. With the introduction of Rowan’s Law, Ontario is the first jurisdiction in Canada to pass concussion safety legislation, setting a precedent for sport legislation across the country. The Ontario government worked closely with key medical experts, athletes, coaches and sport leaders – most notably the members of the Rowan’s Law Advisory Committee – in establishing this first-of-its-kind legislation.
The purpose of OBA’s
Concussion Policy and Code of Conduct is to increase education and awareness for coaches, parents/guardians, players, officials, managers and other team or club members on the signs and symptoms of concussion and the specific protocols for managing concussion in OBA sanctioned activities.
This
Concussion Policy and Code of Conduct aims to
1) ensure that players with a suspected concussion are removed-from-sport and seek medical assessment
2) all players with a suspected and/or diagnosed concussion do not participate in OBA sanctioned activities before medically cleared to return to basketball.
KYBA Directive:
Any incident involving a potential concussion should be reported via our KYBA Incident Reporting Form
All players with a suspected or diagnosed concussion must provide OBA's Medical Assessment Form to the Head Coach and our KYBA Administrator in order to return to play.
Coaches should consult the
Return to Sport Strategy for guidance.

In the spirit of sport, we also ask all players, parents and coachs to abide by the following
Code of Conduct to ensure all of our players have the best experience possible and have the opportunity to optimally benefit from participating in sport.
KYBA Code of Conduct
All KYBA Members - players, parents and coaches are expected to abide by the appropriate code of conduct. All members shall remain respectful towards others - teammates, coaches, volunteers, junior referees, Board Officials and other members or spectators, facilities and facility staff at all times.
Parents’ and Spectators’ Behavioural Guidelines
Definition:
All parents, legal guardians and other spectators are responsible for proper conduct (their own and that of their guests) while attending or participating in all KYBA activities no matter the role they have in the event.
Goal Statement:
Anyone participating in any KYBA sanctioned event (practice, game, skill session, tryout, or any other event) will be expected to adhere to the following Guidelines for Behavior supporting Ontario’s Basketball Fair Play Policy.
Actions:
Parents/Legal guardians should always model mature behaviour consistent with the goals of the Ontario’s Basketball Guidelines for Behaviour supporting Ontario’s Basketball Fair Play Policy:
a) Remember that your son/daughter participates in basketball for his/her enjoyment, not your own.
b) Encourage him/her to participate, do not force him/her.
c) Focus on his/her effort and performance rather winning or losing.
d) Never ridicule or yell at your son/daughter or any other youth player for making a mistake or losing a competition.
e) Encourage your son/daughter to play according to the rules of the event.
f) Appreciate good performances and skillful plays by your son/daughter and all the other participants.
g) Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from youth sporting activities.
h) Respect the officials’ decisions and teach your son/daughter to do likewise.
i) Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every young participant.
Failure to adhere to these guidelines may result in removal from the gym facility and/or disciplinary action in accordance with established OBA Disciplinary Policies.
KYBA Player Parent Coach Contract
KYBA Incident Reporting Form - Should there be any concerns on behalf of any member, this form should be completed and submitted to our KYBA Administrator for appropriate personnel to address.
Parent Attendance at Practices and Games:
Coaches are not expected to spend time disciplining players; parents are expected to be in attendance at practices and games to discipline their child if need be for all entry level programs; and house league or ONL teams atom age and under / or at coach and parents discretion and agreement. If agreed upon by all parties, a family may leave a proxy in charge (ie. another parent from the team covering a player other than their own child).
Parents of players at any age (unless the player has transported themselves to the gym) should be cognizant that they check that practice is on or game schedule is on time before leaving. There may be instances where a team needs to vacate the school or cannot get into a school and we do not want players left standing out in in a cold, dark parking lot.
Game Days:
Players can only be at the gym for their assigned game time and should be dropped off and picked up in a reasonable timeframe before and after (ie. 15 minutes). Players are not free to roam the building or hang out at the gym for the duration of a game day. Families caught doing so will be reprimanded and players could be de-registered from our programs.
In addition, the following video clips serve as fantastic reminders on proper code of conduct for both players and parents. Please take a moment to view these!
