Volunteer Guidelines

All volunteers filling the roles of executive members, divisional conveners and competitive team managers shall be a minimum of 18 years on or before the official start of the playing season.  All volunteers filling the roles of coaches and assistant coaches shall be a minimum of 16 years on or before the official start of the playing season.  KYBA referees serving the house league program shall be a minimum of 13 years on or before the official start of the playing season.

Volunteers must agree to adhere to the playing rules as well as operational and guidelines of conduct as described by the By-Laws of KYBA.  The KYBA has the expectation that all volunteers will conduct themselves in a responsible and caring manner. Coaches should strive to achieve the appropriate mix of enjoyment, sportsmanship, skill development and competition. Our voluneers are encouraged to consult all available information on our website in order to maximize his / her understanding of KYBA operations.  Our Executive and Administrator are also always available to address questions and concerns.

The Volunteer Registration Form is to be completed by each and every volunteer when beginning service with the KYBA. This form includes all the necessary information required by the KYBA to identify its volunteers.  Accuracy and completeness of information is important in planning for training and finding the best qualified coaches.  For volunteers continuing his / her service with the KYBA, they need only update changes in his / her personal information (if any) to the KYBA Administrator each year.

The KYBA (Ottawa Next Level Competitive programs and Kanata Cavaliers House League and Selects progams) is affiliated with Ontario Basketball (OBA) and follows and adheres to OBA's policies and procedures.  As such, KYBA requires Police Record Checks for all executive, coaches, assistant coaches and any adults who will be working with or supervising our players.

Once a volunteer's role within the KYBA has been finalized, the KYBA Administrator will provide instructions on applying for a PRC.  Volunteers must show/provide a copy of the fully completed Police Record Check form to our KYBA Administrator.  Updates are required every 2 years.

If the volunteer's occupation requires him / her to undergo a Police Record Check as a condition of employment, the KYBA sees no need for the volunteer to repeat the process. A copy of this PRC can be provided to our KYBA Administrator.

The KYBA executive reserves the right to refuse service from any volunteer where it believes the volunteer may pose a risk to any player or another volunteer.

Any volunteer with questions regarding this policy should contact the KYBA Administrator.
