Hello Parents,

Just a reminder that we will be holding the Novice Boys skills evaluation session on Saturday, September 22nd at Kanata Highlands Public School, 425 Terry Fox Dr, Kanata, ON K2T 0N3. (Entrance in back of school)
We will also have a second session on Saturday, September 29th, details regarding this session will be out next week so keep your schedule open between 9am and 12pm.

Time: To effectively assess skills on a large number of players, I’m asking parents to help by bringing their son a few minutes early to prepare for their session.

Details of the Skills Evaluation Session
The skills evaluation session is a key step in our start-up process. The results of the session are used to create balanced teams. We have approximately 100 boys registered at the Novice level. Participation by as many of our registered players as possible is ideal to help us accomplish parity. However, rest assured that if you are unable to attend the skills evaluation session, your son will still be placed on a team for the upcoming season.

During the skills evaluation, your son will rotate through drill stations where they will practice various basketball skills. They should treat this as a 'warm-up' for the upcoming season. Your son should not feel any pressure whatsoever, as this process is simply to help ensure the teams are made up as evenly as possible. There are no tiers in the KYBA House League and creating balanced teams is important to ensure we have fair and fun games.

What the Boys Need: Each boy should have a separate pair of indoor basketball shoes. These shoes should not be worn to the gym but put on and off at the school.  If you are a returning player please bring your jersey from last year, this will help the coaches when assessing your son.

Do you have a gently used pair of basketball shoes?  If you’re like me and have a closet full of kids basketball shoes that are no longer being used but still look brand new, why not bring them to us.  I would like to make the shoes available to the boys in our league.  We will have a table at the sort outs where you can drop them off and families can pick out a pair if needed.   If your son does not have a pair of indoor basketball shoes you may want to consider getting a pair for the upcoming season, as shoes are really the only important piece of equipment!

Regular Season information
Upon completion of the sort outs, teams will be created and announced by end of the week after Thanksgiving. This will allow teams to get at least one or two practices in before the regular season starts Saturday October 20th. Finally, I’d like to share some information about game times for the upcoming season. Novice Boys basketball games are 1 hour long. All games will be played on Saturdays, between 1–4 PM, at Kanata Highlands Public School. A game schedule for the season will be issued after your son has been assigned to his team.

Thank you,
