Standard Competitive

KYBA offers competitive basketball for boys and girls from ages 10 to 18. All KYBA competitive teams play in the Eastern Ontario Basketball Association (EOBA) league and participate in the Basketball Ontario provincial championships (Ontario Cup).

The level and number of competitive teams fielded by KYBA remains the sole responsibility of the KYBA Board of Executives. The following factors are taken into consideration:

  • Level of interest at the specific age group
  • Underlying ability of the participants
  • Availability of certified coaches
  • Availability of gyms
  • Parent support of the program

For the 2012-2013 season KYBA Board of Executives decided to support the following Standard competitive teams:

  • Major Atom      ( U12 - born 2001 or later)  – Boys
  • Minor Bantam  ( U13 - born 2000 or later) –  Boys
  • Major Bantam  ( U14 - born 1999 or later) –  Boys and Girls

The fees (registration and team) involved with playing standard competitive basketball are significant. Please check our registration fees for details. The time commitment involves three 2-hour practices per week (including 1 on Saturday or Sunday), games, and out of town tournaments to consider.

Team fees are collected by the team, and are over and above the KYBA registration fees, and may vary between $200 to $400 depending on the number of players on team, the number of tournaments, and the number of individual games played during the season. During the tryouts, the Head Coach will be able to give an estimate of additional fees (sample team budget) and any expected fundraisers needing to be organized for the upcoming season.

Travel costs/weekend for parents attending away tournaments with their child is estimated at $560, if carpooling is not an option           (Gas 700 km~$160, hotel ~ $250, food ~ $150).

All players registered with KYBA wanting to compete and develop their fundamental skills in a fun and rewarding environment are invited and encouraged to tryout for our standard competitive programs.

Tryouts (skill evaluation) are used to select the standard competitive teams (Cavaliers). Evaluations are conducted by the coaching staff for each division.  For more details about dates and times for the upcoming season please check posted schedule. Players released from the standard competitive tryouts will be assigned to the corresponding house league division should the player so chose.
